RAWALPINDI: The US Embassy has airlifted relief supplies, including tents, water pumps and generators, to the Noor Khan base at the request of the Pakistan Army, which are being sent to the affected areas.
Relief was urgently needed after the devastating floods in Pakistan. When the first of these planes landed at Nur Khan Airbase near Rawalpindi, Pakistani military officials and the US Embassy's Chargé d'Affaires Natalie Baker received the relief supplies.
The embassy wrote: "At the request of the Pakistani military, US military aircraft have delivered essential supplies. The Charge-de-Affaires expressed his deepest condolences to the people of Pakistan and said that many lives have been lost due to this widespread flooding. A total of six aircraft from the US Central Command have delivered relief supplies, the first of which has been given to the Pakistani military."
It is well known that heavy rains in Pakistan have not only caused havoc in the Punjab province, but also in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where the average rainfall is 5 to 10 inches.
