India US Trade Deal: Amid the ongoing tariff dispute between India and the US, Jason Miller, a well-known political lobbyist and close aide of Donald Trump, met US President Donald Trump. Jason Miller is the same lobbyist whom the Indian government appointed a few months ago to strengthen its diplomatic outreach to the Trump administration. Jason Miller shared a picture with Donald Trump on social media and wrote, 'Spent a week in Washington. The most special thing was that I got the opportunity to see the work of our president.'

Jason Miller has been entrusted with important responsibilities.

According to reports, Jason Miller is a registered foreign agent who advocates for Indian interests. The Indian government appointed his lobbying firm SHW Partners LLC in April 2024. Under this agreement, India pays the company a fee of $1.5 lakh (about Rs 1.25 crore) per month. This one-year contract is worth $1.8 million (about Rs 15 crore). The firm has been tasked with providing strategic advice on India-related issues and enhancing government engagement with the US government, Congress, think tanks and other institutions.

Trump's trusted aide

Jason Miller is a longtime political aide to Trump and was in the spotlight as his chief media spokesman in the 2016 US presidential election. He was set to become White House communications director, but was forced to drop out of the race before taking office due to personal disputes. He was also accused of having an affair with another Trump campaign official and of sexual harassment. Despite the controversies, he remained close to Trump and played a key advisory role in the 2020 and 2024 elections.

It is worth noting that the official agenda of this meeting has not been announced, but this meeting has taken place at a time when tensions have again increased in India-US trade relations. Tariffs and economic strategies are being discussed between the two countries.

This question has become the center of discussion in global diplomacy. Despite trade tensions and 50% tariffs between India and the US, an opportunity to strengthen relations between the two countries can be found in the Quad (Quadrilateral Security Dialogue) summit. India is going to host this summit in November this year. Trump recently took to his social media platform Truth Social to describe the India-US trade relationship as a one-sided disaster and imposed a total of 50% tariffs on India, including an additional 25% tariff on its purchase of Russian oil. He also claimed that India had offered to reduce the tariffs to zero, but it was too late. On the other hand, India has called the tariffs unfair, unexpected and unreasonable.
